Vi's Grail

Where you’re from:
Wilbraham, MA

The first watch that moved you:
The Ingersoll Radiolite

Why:
It was a groundbreaking wristwatch that altered the history of horology. Introduced in 1919, it incorporated a luminous radium dial (making it the first watch to essentially glow in the dark). Working with radium at that time was a dangerous job: young female factory workers, dubbed the “Radium Girls,” suffered severe radiation poisoning from the radium-laced paint (which led to changes in labor laws and occupation safety regulations). The work was a skill at the time and the story, as well as the watch, moved me.

Grail:
Cartier Crash Platinum because of the unique and iconic organic shape of the case, reminiscent of abstract modernist sculpture and design sensibilities.

The world should know:
I have a background in fine art, and most of my time outside of work is spent drawing. A lot of my work is charcoal drawings centered around animals and portraiture, but I’m always experimenting with something new as well. I like to find time to balance both personal projects and commissioned pieces.
