Overlooked: Three Blue Watches to Assuage Your Winter Blues
Overlooked

Overlooked is your weekly horological treasure hunt — where we dig through the vaults of European Watch Company to spotlight a few quietly brilliant pieces hiding in plain sight. It’s the sleeper hit, the underdog, the “wait, how is this still available?” watch you didn’t know you needed… until now.
As the official start of winter rapidly approaches, the chilly weather and shorter days may be a cause for consternation. But don’t let the blustery winds and ridiculously early sunsets get you down. Instead, take a look at these three shining examples of blue dials framed by warm rose gold cases that will keep you warm (at least in spirit) all winter long.
Omega Speedmaster Racing Chronograph 18K Sedna Gold Blue Dial
Every watch aficionado has to have a Speedmaster in their collection at some point, and this beautiful example would turn heads while being incredibly functional. Its case is Omega’s proprietary 18K Sedna gold, in a rosy tone that feels softly warm against the contrast of the blue dial. With subtle differences in the shade of blue and the texture on the subdials, as well as a slightly bolder blue bezel, it brings a tone-on-tone elegance to the classic chronograph configuration that the Speedy is known for. Powering this stunner is the Omega Caliber 9901 co-axial column wheel chronograph movement, with a 60-hour power reserve. Luminous hands and indices make this legible in any light, and even with a 44mm case, it would be right at home under a suit cuff.
Cartier Santos-Dumont 18K Rose Gold Blue Dial
One of the consistent classics in Cartier’s collections is the Santos-Dumont. First made for pioneering aviator Albert Santos-Dumont, the namesake collection has evolved over the years in size and embellishment, while retaining its classic proportions. This model in glowing rose gold has a teal enamel bezel that adds just the right amount of contrast to the case, almost as if it’s a frame on a painting. The sunburst dial is a striking shade of teal blue, with applied rose gold Arabic markers and sword hands, and the blue theme is carried through with the Cartier signature cabochon on the crown, this time in a color-coordinated sapphire.
IWC Portugieser Perpetual Calendar Boutique 18K Rose Gold Blue Dial
IWC is well-known for its beautiful execution of a perpetual calendar, and this gorgeous piece showcases that technical proficiency. As are the other pieces this week, it’s in an 18K rose gold case, with a beautiful deep blue dial and slightly lighter blue on the subdials to draw the eye to the perpetual calendar displays of month, day, date, and moon phase. The hands and Arabic numerals are in rose gold, completing the elegant look, and it has an exhibition case back in case you want to take a peek at that fabulous in-house IWC caliber 86250 movement.
All three of these pieces are in like new condition, so if you’re feeling down during the winter season, what better way to raise the spirits than to treat yourself to a beautiful blue dial to chase those winter blues away?
